ocbc is exposed to SMEs loan...so do you think the share price will be impacted if defaulted.  So generally I think all the share price will still go down unless the economy picks up.  To me DBS still have room to drop further - free fall unless suitation in US improves.

DBS has the most number of negative news among the local banks.  It is the most exposed regionally, from China to India and in the present financial climate that is bad news.  It has the most exposure to IR.  It is the only local bank to issue toxic structured products in the form of High Notes and more court cases are being lodged against it from Hong Kong to Singapore. Whether the price is cheap is relative.  The fact that it had to issue $4 billion rights so soon after $1.6 billion placement does not speak well of its position and the latest rights was only 18% oversubscribed.

Your analysis is good enough to be graded as sifu, so dun need to ask available sifu to verify. Each sifus will have different analysis on their own, and AK is one of them. Cheers!

Tamasick own 28% steak of DBS. AK guesses, d bank unable to get help fr d big brother as it alrdy got burnt owing to foreign bk investment. Hence, Right issue comes. D right issue had diluted d share valuation, as compared to previous one.

At STI of 1472 yr low, DBS touched at 8.87, now its far below 8.00, not surprise. Whereas OCBC, then was low at 4.41, now staying at ar 4.6. Now looking at FY 08 div yield, both give 14 cts. Practically OCBC seems good n cheap, at least at ds moment.

DBS market capitalisation lose to other bk but its total realised assets are still d top local bank, if still can  recall. After d 4b fr R, it may be otherwise.  Its footprint on investment is wide, including high risks investment. Should see some of those published in paper. OCBC is a typical Chinaman type of bank, not much involved in high risk n high return investment.

Above may not be all correct, for ref only, sifus can chip in as well. no call for anything. CA applies.

We all know it's risky to get into banking counters now. But no risk no gain. DBS was trading $24 just 18 months ago. It's down to $8 or just 30% of the peak price. What I see is that anything below $8.00 for DBS is a bargain (provided you have long timeframe for this counter, 2 years).

Good Luck!
