Jim Rogers is a billionaire so he can be wrong on many small trades  but right on the big ones and still make decent profit. He does not need to tell people the composition of his portfolio.

You are right indeed. He is only human. But then Warren Buffett has not got everything right either. I think a more important question is whether he is right most of the time. What do you think?

These  nutty guys came up with a magical odd number in the rights issue to hook the retailers who will have difficulties disposing it after subscription. I pity the retailer investors searching for answers here.It is a snake eats snake situation.

Why the preference of futures over equities? Do futures have significant advantages over equities? And why not both futures and equities? I have always interested in futures. Make one look cool isn't? My apology for the many questions.

Very complicated ya? And in the long run, for me at least, it is easier just to buy the entire mkt if bullish via ETF or futures. STI is up 8%+ since mid Nov. Japan and China are both up > 10%.

So you think a short squeeze did occur, but not much in you opinion.

When few want to sell, the buyers will have to keep bidding up the price. This is generally not the case in Olam because like I mentioned earlier, a lot of equity funds do not have the mandate to hold bonds. They have no choice but to sell. Hence the volume was high and there was not much of a short squeeze.

In SC Global there is no short squeeze but Wheelock was accumulating after the GO announcement, believing that the co is worth $2.50 but  few wanted to sell as they also believed GO price can improve from $1.80. In fact SCGD went as high as $2.08 intraday for two days.

In my view, the short squeeze did occurr when the price rose from $1.3+ to  $1.5+.  Without the short squeeze, the price would probably be  hovering around $1 by now. Some bros here thought that the short squeeze did not occur due to different expectations.

Btw, I stall cannot see how the  volume tells whether there are more buyers or sellers?

Obfuscate      ( Date: 28-Dec-2012 09:23) Posted:

For a short squeeze to happen there has to be few sellers and a lot of buyers who want to cover their shorts. The volume will tell us whether there are few or many sellers in the market. In Olam's case, just compare its volume vs period a few months earlier. Between 10 Aug and 19 Oct when the share price avg $2.00 daily volume was 13.1m shares. SC Global in the same period was 4.8m shares.

Could you enlighten us how the statistics you have provided here actually show more buyers or sellers?  I don't see the relevance. I can only tell from the price and  not from the volume

Price  will only shoot up  when there are lots of buyers and few sellers eg SC Global since the  general offer  announcement. In Olam's case, the shares transacted in last five weeks to 21 Dec averaged 49.3m daily, compared with 4.2m in SC Global since 6 Dec

We can group the people in the stock market in 3 categories

those who make things happen, those who watch things happen, and those who wonder what happen.

I guess, at best, we can only watch things happen.

Because it is a renounceable rights issue, meaning shareholders will not be compensated if they do not subscribe to the rights issue.
