In theory, it makes sense to profit from the stock mkt in this manner.
In practice, it's not so easy as  to follow  the theory.
If everybody follow the theory, everybody will be a winner and
there will be no loser.

As investors push equities and other risk assets to multi-year highs, one question being raised by analysts is whether upbeat markets are becoming too complacent. Lim Say Boon, chief investment officer at DBS Private Bank in Singapore, says while markets are probably not pricing in long-term structural problems such as huge debt levels in many major economies, the sharp and swift move into stocks this year do not reflect complacency. Instead, the rally in risk assets shows investors are finally taking a step back from high levels of fear and anxiety that ruled last year. In the past three months, shares in the U.S. and Asia have rallied more than 6 percent, while stocks in Europe have gained 4 percent, as fears about U.S. fiscal worries subside and economic data paint a brighter outlook for global growth. It's a sharp contrast to the middle of last year, when a surge in Spanish government bonds yields and worries about a break-up of the euro zone triggered a sharp fall in the euro and equity markets globally.

Wah wah wah, since you said like this, let me give a bit of " history" of Singapore.  Singapore back in history belonged to a Sumatran Empire in the second centrury AD, known as Temasek or " Sea City" . Somehow by the 16th century it has become a part of the Sultanate of Johore before it sank into obscurity for 200 years.
Founded later by Sir Thomas Stamford in 1819, it developed it into a trading port under a treaty with the Sultan of Johore, and further brought it under the jurisdiction and possession of the British East India Company through further treaty with the rulers of Johore. Subsequently Singapore became part of the Straits Settlements under British India.
When Raffles came to Singapore, there were about 1000 Malays and less then than 100 Chinese in the island.   In 1860, the population grew to 80,000 with the Chinese making more than 50 percent of the population.
Singapore was attacked and conquered by Japan in world war II. During the Japanese short period of rule, many Chinese were murdered by the Japanese. The Sook Qing massacre (A campaign by Japs to exterminate the Chings - probably they wanted to kill all " Manchus" ) claimed tens of thousands of Chinese lives in Singapore and elsewhere Malaya and Thailand.
After the war, the British returned to rule and in 1963 Singapore joined mainland Malaya, Sabah and Sarawak to form Malaysia.   Brunei was invited to join, but it refused. Two years later Singapore was kicked out of Malaysia after bitter political scuffles and disagreements between the PAP and Umno.
After the separation, the People of Singapore worked and sacrificed to bring about modern Singapore.
So for us which country can we say that we belong to? None.   We belong to ourselves, the People of Singapore.
Cheers.

I believe seasoned players have 'a list' in their head -  favorite  counters
