3 Factors Driving the Market Higher by Mitch Zacks, Senior Portfolio Manager The stock market is hitting multi-year highs as U.S. equities are shrugging off any negative news. We’ve identified 3 factors that are driving this market higher. We discuss each of them below: 1. US Jobs Numbers Around 200,000 jobs were added in November, December, January, and now, just recently, in February. We haven’t seen this strong of a flow in jobs data in over five years. Both ADP jobs data and the Federal government payroll data have showed strength. Unemployment claims were also recently reported at a five-year low. In September 2012, we saw the U.S. economy adding 100,000 jobs a month. At that time, there were concerns of an economic slowdown caused by the “Fiscal Cliff”. This resulted in the most recent round of Fed bond purchases. In other words, poor fiscal behavior brought monetary authorities to action once again. We believe the Fed’s quantitative easing program (essentially printing money) has triggered these improving monthly jobs numbers. We are in the intermediate phase of GDP growth now. With sequestration spending cuts in place, we were looking to see 1.3% to 1.9% GDP growth for the U.S. economy. However, given the strength of these job numbers, our expectations are now up to 3.0% GDP growth for 2013. Strength in the stock market seems to be predicting this enhanced GDP outlook for 2013. A fairly solid, full-steam ahead economy appears to be here. One major risk is that the Fed takes its foot off the gas pedal earlier than expected. Therefore, we are watching the FOMC minutes closely. 2. Mario Draghi and Europe Relief Mario Draghi, the head of the European Central Bank (the ECB), recently kept his short-term policy rate fixed at 0.75%. In a press conference, Mario Draghi said, “You know the rules. The ball is in the government’s hands”. This is the language of Draghi and the market is buying it. The ECB has made it clear that they will take whatever steps necessary to stabilize the European economic situation. Mario Draghi also spoke of rising cross-border flows of capital in Europe. This is a sign of the beginning of stabilization. In addition, policymakers have decreased their rhetoric associated with an economic “Domino Effect” caused by peripheral EU countries. As a result, a total collapse of Europe’s financial system is less of a concern. As the risk of a financial systemic shock in Europe declines, U.S. stock markets rise. We think another round of policymaking in Europe is needed to help GDP growth. Policymakers at the EU and at the ECB have to go further and if they do, it will push the S& P 500 higher.

After my property profited... here come my banks.... doing great..... Huat la...
The main reason is the huge buybacks, of bonds from the market created by the QE3. This then was again strengthen by the austerity drive that try to strike an equilibrium of overspending versus too much liquidity. The improved economic outlook in the US, with more jobs and lesser strain on the treasury to provide jobless claims.   The better economic position of the US can be a spill over to the rest of the world and a great help to poor nations trying to uplift themselves.   These are my personal opinions, but there are many others that would require 50 pages to write.   Hahaha..   Cheers.

An example of shortists facing their doom?   Anyone?
JPMorgan Loss Could Be Next 'Shock' Event
The JP Morgan (JPM) trading blunder could result in a $100 billion loss, a contagion of its massive portfolio, and even the wipeout of its entire asset base. Even worse, these extremely risky and potentially-illegal actions on behalf of the CIO office and the " London Whale" could be the unexpected " shock" that breaks the market, derails the Fed's huge monetary stimulus, and sends us back into a global recession.
The JP Morgan Shock
The entire world has forgotten about or ignored what could be the upcoming " shock" that puts the global financial system in severe jeopardy. To make matters much, much worse - I don't think anyone even has a clue as to what is really happening. Investors, economists, financial powerhouses, top business executives, politicians, lawmakers, consumers, students, governments, and even central banks are completely confused. None of them are expecting what I will describe below.
There is one event that may ultimately solve the mystery of the global economy. This event would not only plunge the economy back into a deep recession and lose investors hundreds of billions of dollars, but it could bring about the collapse of some of the world's largest financial institutions and even render central bank stimulus and QE completely ineffective and futile. This event is by no means a guarantee its probability is even likely under 5 percent. But this event has all the necessary ingredients to culminate into a major panic. Together with slowing global economies and an extremely unstable financial system, this could be the next Lehman Brothers.
This event is JP Morgan's huge trading mistake. The massive losses that were racked up starting in April and May 2012 are by no means over. What has been represented by JP Morgan as a trading mistake and " hedging" strategy with an initial estimated loss of $2 billion, was really a leveraged and speculative bet that could soon infect JP Morgan's entire portfolio and result in losses of $100 billion.
