STI to cross 3000 boosted by long-term investors

Singapore shares ended at a fresh five-year high.The 30-share Straits Times Index climbed 0.3% to 3317.59--both its intraday high and its highest close since Jan. 9, 2008.

Volume was sluggish at 3.60 billion shares valued at S$1.15 billion.

" We just had the Easter weekend so everyone is just waiting to see what happens," said Kelly Teoh, market strategist at IG in Singapore, adding that U.S. manufacturing data disappointed on Monday while U.S. nonfarm payrolls are due on Friday. " Everyone is sitting on the sidelines."
