JR reputation at stake here. Simple as that.
If he screws investors this time (via Geo Energy), then he loses his reputation as a financier and " fund management investor" .
And he is risking his big reputation just for 'a few million dollars' ?
JR just using his 1m director fees to buy some shares, why is the market buying even higher than his cost which is considered free. End of the day, its how much the coal be worth after selling it and deducting all the super high expenses and taxes before some is leftover for the investor.
In anycase the DCF value of the coal will soon be able to be estimated once news of china environmental policies is announced later this year, which can materially affect the import demand and hence pricing of low grade coal to china.
Overpay for a commodity and you will be investing on the greater fool theory. At current price, it is no where cheap considering coal downward pricing risk and high possibility of further price crash on china coal policy. There is a very poor risk / reward at this juncture.
Coal is still cheaper (if not the cheapest) source of energy for huge importer like China... any realization of lesser pollution plan is 10 to 15 years away...

Not vested in this but looking at the relatively " pathetic" sell-down volume today as compared to the fierce white candle on Thursday with super high volume, a rebound may be imminent. Did a check on the fundamentals of Geo and realize it is really solid, cash-rich and low debt. Earnings also look sustainable and there maybe more upside for growth from China and India.
Burning of coal however is environmentally non-friendly and there are already many alternative sources of energy. Shouldn't pose too much of a problem for revenue from China as China still relies heavily on coal for energy generation. The only downside - more air pollution for China and environmental problems for the world unless they deploy new technologies to curb carbon emissions. But will China do it?? Just my thought (Sorry a bit off-track)..

I got in @ 405...trust that this is just the 1st high n subsequent highs will come. Still believe it's strategic for JR to buy n take lead. Inviting BB to hop in and fire up his coy shares. Penny run has started n this a gd time.
