Yangzijiang Shipbuilding (Holdings) is set to own the largest dry dock in China as the Singapore-listed company, which holds a 60% stake in Yangzi Xinfu Shipbuilding, is building a 543-metre-by-147-metre dock that will be ready from 2013.

Industry watchers says the new dock will overtake Hong Kong-listed Rongsheng Heavy Industries’s No 4 dry dock, which measures 530 metres by 135 metres and is currently the largest of its kind in the country.

The move has raised concerns that it will further aggravate the excess capacity the Chinese shipbuilding industry is currently facing. However, some market players reckon it is necessary for Yangzijiang to own a large dock in order to exercise flexibility and adapt to market changes.

“Yangzijiang is building this mega-size dry dock so that it can construct large vessels as well as offshore units,” said one industry pundit.

Industry players say Yangzijiang will be using the dock to construct the 10,000-teu containerships that Seaspan Corp is intending to book.

“Another reason for building the dry dock is that Yangzijiang did not succeed in taking over oil-rig maker PPL Shipyard. As a result, it is investing in Yangzi Xinfu to enter the offshore sector,” said one shipbuilding player.

aiyo, why simple thing also get so complicated? just tell u...

yangzijiang ex-div date is on 23/5 next monday, so as long as u buy before this date, even if it's on friday 4:59pm, you will get the div --> as simple as that! No need to calculate T+3, T+4, this & that, & pay by this & that.... Reason is simple coz if someone thinks that he can contra before and after ex-div to earn kopi $$$, then he is dead wrong since the price will " adjust" itself after the ex-div date. So what you " earn" in div will be given back with the drop in price.

If you pay on T+4 which is 26 May 2011, share transfer most properly on 27 May 2011, you miss the div too.

YZJ Ex Dividend on 26 May 2011, means share transfer to your CDP  latest by 26 May 2011 mean you must pay by T+3

My understanding is:

If a shareowner wants to keep the div. he must sell  on or after  XD (23May)...

If an investor want to buy the share with div., he must buy before XD, i.e. by 20May the latest  ..

..   the record day is at t+3:   to allow the finalization of transactions done on 20May

i believe you can sell the moment it XD on that day. The record day is whereby they will collect the number of sharedholders holding the stock prior to XD and you can ssafely sell after XD if that's your intention.

anyone correct me if im wrong on this.

Sorry for asking a noobs qn. On the SGX announcement, it says Expiry Date  is on 23 May but record date is 25 May. Meaning u can sell on 23 May to be eligible for the dividend? What is this record date? But the web says need to hold till 25 May 5pm. Very confused here.

couple of factors are indicating that yzj is poised for a move up..

1) it is in oversold position for almost 1 week

2) it's paying 4.5 c divy..

hence any price weakness would be an opportunity to collect some more..as the stock will be moving up from its oversold position n

supported by its dividend..

gd luck!

with a good coy like yangzijiang. one shouldnt be worry at all to buy at this price. 1.80+ is dirt cheap. i will buy more yangzijang. its no brainer with its Q1 2011 results it shows how well the company is being manage. constantly expansion n huge order from seaspan. my friends just sold off his genting n gonna buy yangzijiang. remember what happen to cosco just 2 days before the contract announcment.? do no short yangzijiang. BOSAYOR

alexchia01      ( Date: 28-Apr-2011 17:00) Posted:

Yangzijiang is most likely going down.

Short-Term MACD is pointing down and Resistance at $1.90, but support at $1.65.

These few days sell down volume has been building up, is already a sign it's about to move down.

Just my personal views. FYI, I short this counter, so you may want a 2nd opinion.

Good luck.

Yangzijiang Shipbuilding (YZJ SP S$1.84 OUTPERFORM TP S$2.69)

1Q11 core net profit of Rmb955.3m (+63% yoy) is 19% above our forecast and consensus, at 29% of our FY11 number, thanks to stronger-than-expected gross margins of 27% (22% expected). We expect margins to normalize in the coming quarters as high-margin contracts secured before the crisis reach their tail end.

Maintain OUTPERFORM and TP S$2.69. We recommend investors to accumulate YZJ ahead of potential sizeable contracts from Seaspan. Order wins and higher revenue from productivity gains plus the strong 1Q11 results are expected to boost its share price.
