Recalled during the '80s..... Japanese banks occupied half or more of the top 10 spots in the world. Where are they now? Something to philosophize over for chinese banks also. Regarding GIC, the first part comment about preempting and anticipating by mm is not wrong... i recalled warren buffett felt the same too. But the part about citizen pressure to spend away the profits sound hollow although oppositions may make it an issue during election years. |

Three Chinese banks in world's top four: studyThree Chinese institutions were among the world's top four banks at the end of 2007 at a time when the market capitalisation of Western banks was suffering from a global financial crisis, a study showed Wednesday. The number one spot in the rankings, compiled by the Boston Consulting Group, was occupied by the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, with market capitalisation of nearly 340 billion dollars (218 billion euros).
The study found that banks in North America and Western Europe had suffered a loss of 695 billion dollars in market capitalisation at the end of 2007 while their counterparts in emerging market countries Brazil, Russia, China and India had seen their market capitalisation increase by 753 billion dollars. Major US and European banks have suffered losses and asset writedowns stemming from the near collapse of US subprime -- high risk -- mortgage sector, which undermined the value of billions of dollars' worth of their mortgage-backed securities. Just for sharing info: MM: Why it is so, a good reasons for GIC not to be too transparent as compare to Temasek Holding, stating no companies likes to disclose and have it moves anticipated and for reason may rise people's rising expectation in speniding away the return. Five to ten year for GIC to disclose and for Temasek is annually, the same goes for listed company as required. Meanwhile PM told media at the sidelines in Jan at Davos World Economic forum, GIS is moving forward, we've decide to d to (do) more. Let see. source from SPH (News) Thursday, May 1, 2008 (Labour day) Wishes every one a happy labour day. Havea nice day relaxing. |
