Mr Sim gave every shareholder present at the AGM a 4GB ZEN MP3 player... very generous of him and it was a nice gesture.. it is worth more than $200 dividend one will get if you own 1000 shares! "Cnet's review: The good: The Creative Zen sounds fantastic and features a brilliant color screen capable of displaying photos and video. The player offers a smorgasbord of desirable extras such as an SD card expansion slot, an FM radio, a voice recorder, and a user-definable EQ. It has a slim, pocket-friendly design; is very user-friendly; supports subscription music; and sports a reasonable price tag."

CIMB - Creative Tech (S$5.95) - 1QFY08 results - Entering seasonally strongest quarter Above expectations. Excluding US$4.4m of investment gains, 1Q08 net loss of US$3.1m came in better than consensus and our estimate of a US$6m loss. Key variances were higher-than-expected other income. Although gross margins came in 90bp above our estimate, the improvement was offset by a similar increase in the opex ratio. 1Q08 numbers represent 10% of our full-year forecast, tracking historical patterns. Sales slipped 24% yoy to US$185m, as growth in the audio and speaker segments was dragged down by a sharp decline in PDE-related products (mostly MP3-related products). PDE sales plunged 42% yoy, in sharp contrast to Apple?s 4% yoy growth during the period. Creative also gave up some of its lower-margin HDD-based MP3 player business. EBITDA margins still a negative 3.7%, but were a significant improvement from the - 7.0% a year ago and -8.7% in 4Q07, lifted by the continuous improvement in gross margins. Nevertheless, current revenue and margins are still insufficient to cover its cost structure. Still in net cash. Net cash improved further from US$111m as at end-June to US$124m, lifted by the sale of some investments. Creative continued to have tight control over inventory, which declined US$11m qoq despite higher sales. Entering the busiest quarter. We are pleased with its continuous efforts to strengthen its balance sheet and control operating expenses. Although we see little excitement in its core businesses at the moment, we expect Creative to return to the black in 2QFY08, boosted by year-end Christmas demand. Also, trading interest in the stock typically improves in the December quarter. Forecasts unchanged, upgrade to Trading Buy from Neutral. We are keeping our FY08-10 earnings intact for the time being despite the better-than-expected 1Q numbers. Our target price of S$7.05 is still based on 1x P/BV. Upgrade to Trading Buy. We see support from its low P/BV and decent dividend yield. |

Singapore's Creative posts Q1 profit on investment gains Creative Technology Ltd The company reported a gain of $1.3 million, compared with a loss of $21 million in the July-Sept quarter a year ago. The gain included a net investment gain of $4.4 million, as a result of the sale of its 80.1 percent manufacturing operations in Malaysia. Revenue was $184.6 million, compared with $241.5 million a year ago. The company, which makes Nomad and Zen MP3 players, voluntarily delisted from the Nasdaq in August, citing administrative overhead and reporting costs. Side track a little... I recently got to look at the new Apple iPhone and it is really cool! It is compact, the display is clear and the user interface is solid. Looks cool too! Can't wait to buy it when it comes to Singapore. |

this cannot make it anymore... i just took a look at their new products...yet another MP3 player??? why are they so much into this low margin stuff? If they cannot come out with an innovative product, even $2 seems expensive to me, let alone $5.65! |
